The contraceptive implants or birth control implants  is a device which is used by women worldwide, it is mostly inserted and removed by health professional especially nurses and doctors who are qualified and experience, the device is  available in hospitals, centers and treatment is free, contraceptive implant is  placed under the skin of the upper arm, the implant has its role in  releasing a steady dose of progestin to thicken cervical mucus and to thin the lining of the endometrium inhibiting sperms from reaching the egg, it also suppresses ovulation to take place

Doctors advise to clients cleanliness should be maintained around that region to avoid infection.

Disadvantages

  1. The disadvantages of contraceptive implants is that  you might feel uneasy because of the changes that are hapenning in your body.
  2. Contraceptive implants has its short term side effects which includes headaches.breast tenderness and mood changes.
  3. The contraceptive Implants might cause acne or their acne may worsen.
  4. Women using inducing drugs the contraceptive device is not suitable for them.
  5. Unfortunately the implant cannot protect you from sexual transmitted diseases.
  6. It is a small procedures which is done by a doctor or nurse.
A contraceptive implants is not suitable to women who have the conditions which include

  • Already pregnant
  • Arterial disease or history of serious heart disease or stroke
  • Disease of the liver
  • Breast cancer or breast cancer within the last five years
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding which is not normal.
 Side Effects

  •  Acne
  •  Breast Tenderness.
  •  Weight Gain.
  •  Headaches.
  •  Irregular period


Procedure in inserting the implants
When you visit a doctor or a nurse before insertion of the implants  first your blood pressure has to be checked,weight,height then medical history your own and family also to make sure you are the suitable candidate for the procedure. illness you might have and the nurse or doctor doesn't know you should tell them after that if you are suitable candidate then a trained doctor or nurse will give you a local anesthetic to numb the part of your arm where the implant will be insertedjust under your skin in the inner area of your upper arm.


It is a quick procedure and their is no need for stitches.after the implant has been well placed the client will use her finger to see if the implant is well placed by the help of a nurse or a doctor. dressing is done to avoid any infection for few days.client is advised that the place will be tender or swollen for a few days but after the area has healed you will be able to do your normal activities.

Procedure on taking out the implant
Taking out an implants is a simple procedure which is done in few minutes also a trained doctor or nurse are the ones qualified to do this technique first the doctor will feel your arm to locate where the implnt is the area will be cleaned with iodine then local anesthetic will be used to numb your arm so that no pain can be felt tiny cut in your skin willbe made and  the implant removed out, dressing will be done to keep the place from infection and dry.
If you want to carry on using an implant, the doctor or nurse can put a new one in at the same time. You will continue to be protected against pregnancy.
